Module homomorphisms from Frechet algebras
We first study some properties of $A$-module homomorphisms $theta:Xrightarrow Y$, where $X$ and $Y$ are Fréchet $A$-modules and $A$ is a unital Fréchet algebra. Then we show that if there exists a continued bisection of the identity for $A$, then $theta$ is automatically continuous under certain condition on $X$. In particular, every homomorphism from $A$ into certain Fr...
متن کاملThe Resonant Thought of G . E . Moore
Themes from G. E. Moore is a collection of sixteen new essays written by prominent contemporary philosophers. The essays explore a wide variety of themes arising from Moore's work in epistemology and ethics. The first eight essays in the collection are devoted to Moore's work in epistemology and include discussion of Moore's proof of an external world, skepticism, idealism, perceptual knowledge...
متن کاملG-dimension over Local Homomorphisms. Applications to the Frobenius Endomorphism
We develop a theory of G-dimension over local homomorphisms which encompasses the classical theory of G-dimension for finitely generated modules over local rings. As an application, we prove that a local ring R of characteristic p is Gorenstein if and only if it possesses a nonzero finitely generated module of finite projective dimension that has finite G-dimension when considered as an R-modul...
متن کاملHomomorphisms from Mapping Class Groups
This paper concerns rigidity of the mapping class groups. We show that any homomorphism φ : Modg → Modh between mapping class groups of closed orientable surfaces with distinct genera g > h is trivial if g ≥ 3 and has finite image for all g ≥ 1. Some implications are drawn for more general homomorphs of these groups.
متن کاملDiscontinuous Homomorphisms from C ( X
The conjecture that every algebra norm || • || on C(X) is equivalent to the uniform norm arises naturally from a theorem of Kaplansky in 1949 that necessarily 11/11 > \f\x ( ƒ e C(X)): see [9, 10.1]. The seminal paper on the automatic continuity of homomorphisms from C(X) is the 1960 paper of Bade and Curtis [2] in which, for example, it is proved that there is a discontinuous homomorphism from...
